Whiten teeth naturally

Want the bright Hollywood smile without getting unnatural and fake teeth (like veneers)? You can whiten your teeth naturally at home.

Here’s how you can whiten your teeth naturally with the ingredients you have at home:

Make a paste with a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Gently brush your teeth with this paste to remove surface stains. Be sure to rinse well. Keep in mind that some surface stains are easier to remove than others. For instance, stains from coffee, tea, and red wine can be minimized with this method. More stubborn stains, like from tobacco, may not be successfully removed with this home remedy. Furthermore, intrinsic stains like that from antibiotics cannot be treated with this mixture.

While this home remedy will not whiten your teeth as much as the professional method at your dentist, it can lighten your teeth by a couple of shades. It can also be a good way to maintain your pearly whites after professional whitening.  Another benefit of this natural way to whiten your teeth at home is that it is quick and costs almost nothing. Ask your dentist if you can try this method and avoid it if you have sensitive teeth, have cavities or gum loss and/or gum disease.

Pro tips to maintain white teeth:

1. Rinse with water immediately after drinking coffee, tea, red wine or other dark-colored drinks. Note: wait at least 20 minutes before brushing after acidic drinks to avoid damaging the enamel.

2. Eat a piece of apple or celery after drinking the above beverages or eating curry to help remove the stains on your teeth and to freshen your breath.

3. Drink coffee through a straw to minimize staining your pearly whites. If you aligners are looking dingy, soak them in a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to whiten and disinfect. Then brush and rinse the aligners thoroughly before wearing them.

4. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. Tobacco stains your teeth, and worse, it can lead to gum disease.
